Fire - Belgrave Walk, Mitcham

Dear Met Engage Members,

On Saturday 25/07/2026, at approximately 1514 hours, emergency services were called to a large fire at Belgrave Walk, Mitcham.

A large joint agency response between emergency services and partner agencies was present in the area to tackle the fire, which has now been brought under control.

Fortunately, there have been no fatalities and no serious injuries. One police officer received smoke inhalation injuries, but has since been discharged from hospital. All persons have been accounted for.

Our partners from both the housing agencies and Merton council are working with those residents who have been impacted by the fire on their property. They are also working to secure the site moving forward.

A refuge centre was established at the hall opposite St Peter & St Paul Church, Church Road, Mitcham, CR4 3BN.

Our thoughts are with those who have been impacted by this fire.

Officers will be conducting reassurance patrols along with community engagement from the fire service over the coming days.

There is no information to suggest any ongoing risk to the public at this time.
